Frequently Asked Questions

What if I’m the least creative person who ever lived?

My sincerest apologies for the string of discouragements that made you doubt your creativity in small or big ways. Think of this more like playtime! When was the last time you picked up a paint brush for the sole purpose of giving your soul a purpose? The goal is to enjoy yourself, no one expects you to recreate the Mona Lisa.

What am I paying for exactly?

Purchasing and reserving a session saves you a spot at one of 12 desks. Inside each desk are materials for you to use while you are here:

  • watercolor paper

  • construction paper

  • watercolor paint

  • paint brushes

  • pigma micron pens

  • color pencils

  • glue sticks

  • scissors (left-handed scissors available)

  • needle and thread

  • classic #2 Ticonderoga pencils

Other supplies, tools, and materials are available for use, subject to availability.

I made my reservation! What should I expect when I visit?

The Beginning of a Session

  • Welcome, come in, come in! My name is Craig and I promise I’m friendly, calm, and won’t make any sudden movements.

  • Pick a seltzer from the mini-fridge, and/or make yourself a cup of tea.

  • Take a seat, inhale, exhale.

  • Look through the materials in your desk to see what inspires you, start with the collage challenge (the top left drawer in the green card catalogue) the goal is to make an abstract collage with the bits of paper onto the attached card. Trust me, it gets the creativity flowing.

The Middle of a Session

  • Hopefully you’ll have moments in the flow state. This is when you’re in the zone because you have a task that keeps your attention and requires just the right amount of skill level (not too difficult, not too easy).

  • Feel free to take breaks to socialize and hydrate.

The End of a Session

  • Clean up will start about 15 minutes before the end of the session.

  • Please help by making your desk look how you found it (putting the materials back where you found them and wiping the desk surface).

  • Take your creations with you! Anything left behind can and may be gifted to one of the neighborhood cats.

  • Before you leave I’d be happy to help you schedule your next visit!

Is this for children or adults?

The Craft Castle is a space for adults to relax, create, and enjoy somewhat unfiltered conversation. The exception will be for 12+ year olds, accompanied by an adult, and both you and the youth understand this is the grownup table. Language may be colorful and mature in subject matter.

Social Studio Art may be a great fit for your child, and SCRAP Bmore is a wonderful place to pick up materials for all kinds of projects.

If you ever need a place of peace and creativity for youself, I hope you choose The Craft Castle as your retreat.

Is this BYOB?

No, The Craft Castle is an alcohol-free studio space here to show folks a wholesome good time with classic healthy coping mechanisms. Making art, in community, while drinking some tea? I DARE anyone’s therapist to not be proud!

Can I bring a snack?

Yes, if you would like to bring something to snack on while you craft, sure!

NO PICKLES, NO TUNA!

Want to share a treat? You are welcome to bring store bought baked goods like a classic sheet cake or cookies, we can serve them in mugs with spoons. It’s amazing.

Is there parking?

There is metered street parking directly in front of The Craft Castle and free street parking in the surrounding area, please pay close attention to signs.

Are you hiring?

No, not at this time. Best of luck in your job search!

How do I enter The Craft Castle?

The Craft Castle is nestled between Flaunt and Balto Vintage. The entrance is at the front of the building. There are 4 steps and a handrail.

What if I need to reschedule my visit?

Please reschedule or cancel your session at least 24 hours in advance or forfeit the cost of that visit. No hard feelings, it’s just the reality that last minute spots can be difficult to fill. Canceling your session is not the same as getting a refund, you will be able to reschedule the session.
